Panasonic Electric Works Co Ltd released an LED base light that is designed for office use and has a total efficiency of 104.6lm/W (6,800lm, 65W).

The total efficiency is about 52% higher than that of the company's LED base light released in fiscal 2009.

There have already been some LED base lights for office use. However, while they have long lives and can reduce maintenance efforts, their total efficiencies are lower than those of base lights using HF fluorescent lamps. According to Panasonic Electric Works, the LED base light that it released in fiscal 2009 has a total efficiency of 68.8lm/W, which is lower than the 85.3lm/W of its base light using two 32W HF fluorescent lamps.

For the new LED base light, Panasonic Electric Works made improvements to the heat radiation design, optical design and device design and employed a high-efficiency LED unit, high-reflectance white resin mirror, etc. As a result, the company achieved an illuminance as high as that of the base light using two 32W HF fluorescent lamps and an efficiency as high as 104.6lm/W while reducing glare.

Also, the power consumption per unit illuminance of the new LED base light is about 25% lower than that of the base light using two 32W HF fluorescent lamps and about 37% lower than the LED base light released in fiscal 2009.

The new LED base light is available in two types. One is directly attached to a ceiling, and the other is embedded in a ceiling. Both of the two types use 150 daylight-color LEDs. The life of the light source is 40,000 hours.

Panasonic Electric Works will release the LED base light Aug 1, 2010, in Japan, aiming to sell 5,000 units in fiscal 2010. Its price has not been announced yet.
